Why Asset Tracking Software Should Be In Your Company’s Strategy

May 9, 2024 by Angela Toland

In an increasingly difficult market environment, with rising prices and shrinking margins putting additional strain on their bottom line, forward-thinking businesses are looking to cut costs and maximize their efficiencies.

Part of their strategy involves taking a more sustainable approach in their activities and reducing their carbon footprint – and that’s where asset tracking can help.

Benefits of Asset Tracking Software

Asset tracking and sustainability truly go hand in hand, greatly improving users’ productivity and benefiting the environment by minimizing waste.

Reusable totes don’t need to end up in a landfill or stay unused, wasting away in a corner of a warehouse somewhere. Thanks to asset management software, you’ll always be able to keep your containers in circulation and know where they are, where they’ve been, what they’re being used for, and where they’re going.

Taking better accountability for your reusable containers will result in:

  1. More efficient deliveries
  2. Fewer missing containers, and
  3. Fewer unnecessary replacements due to better utilization and maintenance

How Precision IBC Uses TrackAbout To Manage

Its Rental Fleet

One of our customers, Precision IBC, says its clients find TrackAbout software to be an effective way of managing their rental fleet – and that it's helped them to become better stewards of the environment.

Founded in 1995, Precision IBC is a sales and service company headquartered in Fairhope, Alabama. Operating out of its main hub in Broussard, Louisiana, it supplies customers across the United States and beyond with new and reconditioned stainless steel and poly Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs).

Precision IBC serves a wide range of industries including chemicals, oil and gas, food grade, pharmaceutical, paints and coatings, and distilling. Its containers range in size from 126 gallons toPrecision IBC_1  793 gallons and are governed by 49 CFR UN/DOT requirements.

Most of its business is through rentals, with over 50,000 assets currently in circulation – and many of these are monitored by TrackAbout’s asset tracking software, says Joseph Weller, Precision IBC’s Vice President of U.S. West and Canada.

“Over the last ten years or so, we’ve found a lot of our customers have been asking about how they could better manage their rentals. They want to be more efficient, so they can reduce their rental rates and minimize their replacement costs for tanks they can’t find,” he says. “Some of our customers have very large fleets, but still manage them using spreadsheets. We knew about TrackAbout’s software and its cradle-to-grave approach of being able to track equipment and were happy to recommend them.”

With regular updates and a technical team always on hand for support and guidance, our software is designed to provide users with full oversight of their assets.

Features include barcode scanning, the ability to quickly and easily capture information about the containers themselves and their contents, as well as details about when the asset was last recertified or who the last customer was, and how long they've had it in their possession.

“There are a lot of different reasons why you should track your equipment. Being more sustainable is one of them,” says Weller.

“We like to partner with companies we trust to help our customers – and see TrackAbout as best-in-class,” he adds. “For years, we’ve had a great relationship with them and feel comfortable recommending them to help our customers protect their assets and manage their fleets. The software seems to answer all our customers’ needs.”
